Dance to You! at the Missionary Franciscan Sisters Convent

In late November, Dance to You! had the honor of performing for the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception at their convent located in Tenafly, New Jersey. The sisters first purchased this property in 1920 as a place of rest and recuperation. Today, more than 100 years later, it serves as a retirement and convalescent home for about 30 sisters between the ages of 80 and 105!

We were delighted to be the first group to perform for the sisters in person since the pandemic! We performed a variety of solos including ballet variations from Paquita, Don Quixote, and Le Corsaire, as well as various contemporary solos that our dancers will be presenting in their upcoming Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Competition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We also performed two musical theater duets to the ABBA songs, “Dancing Queen” and “Lay All Your Love on Me."

Finally, in the spirit of the holiday season, we performed two holiday themed dances: a jazz piece to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and excerpts from “The Waltz of the Snowflakes” from The Nutcracker. Many of our dancers who are at Nunnbetter Dance Theatre perform in the studio’s production of The Nutcracker every year, so it was wonderful to be able to whisk the sisters away to the Land of Snow and share one of the most beautiful parts of the ballet with them. We all had a wonderful time, and the sisters even sent us a beautiful card to show their appreciation!
